The story so far:
I sank down in the chair, not since my grandparents' house burning had one of my visions been so significant and so close to me. The dream vividly came into my minds eye again, and emotion washed over me as I recalled all the feelings I experienced when I was having the vision. I knew that the Nona, was not the woman in my dream as she looked nothing like her, and of course the commandment that Nona had bared was not "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" which was screamed by the man in my dream while torturing the poor woman. As the emotion started to wear off I began to ponder if I had at last been given an opportunity to use my gift to alter the course of events yet to pass. Methra had been watching me the whole time, but had remained silent, I looked up at her and asked her to cancel all of the appointments I had for the remainder of the day and to reschedule with all the clients. She protested momentarily stating that all the new clients I was supposed to see today would be rather upset, but I waved her off and told her to tell them that I was gravely sorry, but I had an urgent matter come up that required immediate attention. Methra stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her, as she did I turned on my computer.
When Windows finally finished booting up, I fired up the web browser and quickly searched for all material I could find regarding Nona's death. It appeared the Police were being rather tight lipped with the press, I can't say I blamed them as the circumstances were rather unusal. What I did find out was that Nona had last been seen two days ago and that her boyfriend had filed a missing persons report yesterday, and that she was found this morning at about 3AM. Discouraged by the lack of information, I rubbed my eyes and opened up Nona's file, I began to read through, and found some of the notes from my colleage who had transferred her to me. Apparently she had spoken to him regarding the testimony she had made in court and she had doubted that she did the right thing, because she had actually not been sure of what she had seen the night of the murders. The prosecuters had tried hard to convince her that she was only doign the right thing confirming teh other evidence they all ready had and had practically brow beat her euphemistically into making statement she wasn't even sure were true. I found this very interesting, she had doubts about what she testified to and then she is found today, murdered, apparently for the "crime" of bearing false witness against her neighbor. It was obvious that whomever had killed her knew she had not been sure of her testimony, or perhaps knew her neighbor had not killed his family.
I reclined back and looked up at the cieling, I didn't know what to do from here; So I had a new client that had been murdered apparently by the same man I saw in my dream, but how did it help me be able to help the woman in my dream? Not able to concentrate on the matter I thought perhaps looking through the files of the other new patients would offer a distraction. As I read through the files the minutes on the clock ticked away, Methra came in and told me she was going to lunch, I had spent the last two hours on the files, and hadn't noticed the noon sun was glaring through the window or that much time had passed. I wasn't very hungry the dream and then finding out about Nona had robbed me of that. After a 5 minute respit Iwent back to the files, as I opened the next one a shiver went through me, the picture staring at me from the glossy finish was the woman in my vision. Apparently her name was Evelyn Marshall, she was 35 years old and as I read through the file it was clear she had committed the crime of adultery she had been accused of in my dream. There were noted full of vivd details regarding her "sexploits" she hadn't been faithful to her husband since 6 months after their marriage. She rationalized it with Dr. Fitzwell, my former colleage, by explaining that her husband had becime married to his work, and not her almost immediately after the honeymoon. According to her she was a woman with desires and needs that were not being fulfilled, she loved her husband, but felt she needed to fill the void he had created.
I called out on the intercom for Methra, and then I recalled she had stepped out for lunch, I stood up and went to the foyer and sat down at her desk. A brief survey of the top of the desk found the appointment book I was looking for, as I perused the pages, I didn't find the entry for Evelyn's rescheduled appointment. I set down the book and opened our client database to search for Evelyns' phone number I found it and dialed the phone. It rang and rang and rang for what seemed forever, before a haggard sounding man picked up the reciever on the other end. I told him who I was and that I wanted to speak with Evelyn. He sighed and replied.
"Your secretary called earlier this morning, and as I told her my wife has been missing for several days now."
My heart sank, wondering if i was too late to help another person that haunted my dreams, after a moment of silence I said "I'm very sorry Mr. Marshall, Mertha had not informed me."
Wearily he spoke "Thank you, if you hear from her, would you please let me know?"
"OK" was all I could say and I hung up the reciever.
Saddened by the possibility of an inability to help those that somehow reached out to me yet again, I sank into Mertha's chair. Mertha came back from lunch and looked puzzled as to why I was seated in her chair, I simply informed her I had needed to look at the appointment book, I told her I was leaving for the day and asked her to contact me if Evelyn Marshall called. Mertha quickly said.
"Oh! her husband said she had been missing for the last few days"
"I know, I spoke with her husband too."
"But she did call us just as I was leaving for kunch she said she was in East Las Vegas and had to cancel her appointment. I informed her that was OK because we actually were cancelling them all today and asked her if she wanted to reschedule. But she told me that she would call back to do so at a later time"
"Did you tell her about what her husband had said?" I questioned
"Yes, she told me she just needed some time away and had taken of for a few days."
I was immensly relieved my chances of saving this poor girl and possibly more excited me like I hadn't been excited in years, forgetting all about calling Mr. Marshall back. I said goodbye to Mertha and ran out the door determined to find Evelyn in East Las Vegas before, the tormented soul in my vision did.
